Grotträddningsövning i Korallgrottan

 

Vartannat år arrangerar polisen i Jämtland en övning för att fjällräddningen ska få öva räddning i grotta. Eftersom varken poliser eller fjällräddare är så vana i grottor bjuder de in oss speleologer att vara med som stöd, både i planering av själva övningen och som guider under jord. I år höll vi till i Sveriges längsta grotta, Korallgrottan, kanske även Sveriges vackraste. Det var min tredje övning men nytt för denna gång var att Andreas och jag ingick i självaste övningsledningen. Lite utmanande och väldigt roligt. Hela gänget gjorde både eftersök och därtill omhändertagande av tre figuranter, en med lårbensfraktur och två som var oskadda, alla tre mycket nedkylda.  Övningsdeltagarna gick verkligen in för sin uppgift och alla verkade nöjda efteråt (kan också ha berott på helikoptertransporten till och från grottan).

One of the fun things I get the opportunity to do is the biannual cave rescue training arranged by the Swedish police and mountain rescue service. As none of these organisations are very well acquainted with caves they invite us speleologists for support with planning but above all guiding in the cave. This session was held in Korallgottan, the longest cave in Sweden and one of the most beautiful ones. My friend Andreas and I were to help out in the planning of the event, a bit challenging but loads of fun as well. The group got two different tasks; to organise a search for three missing cavers and later on rescue of these cavers, all three severely hypothermic and one with a femur fracture. The team did very well and they also appeared to be happy with the day (perhaps only because we hade the opportunity to get a heli ride to and from the cave).
