Magnetic Island

Idag tog jag färjan över till Magnetic Island. Ön gar fått sitt namn av mr Cook som fick tjall på sin kompass precis i närheten och trodde att ön var magnetisk (så är inte fallet). Dramatisk natur och mycket fint att titta på både över och under ytan. Har bla sett livs levande (men sovande) vilda koalor. De är verkligen hur söta som helst! Passade såklart på att testa de två snorkelrutter som finns på ön. Vid den ena finns både vraket av skeppet Moltke (Wikilänk) och en flygplanspropeller/motorblock från andra världskriget (från en CW-22B Curtiss Falcon för att vara noga).  Den andra rutten stoltserade med massor av fina koraller, ex "lettuce coral" som syns på bilden. Att jag helt fräckt har stulit undervattensfotona från nätet har mer med att jag inte fick med mig kameran än att det var skitsikt, typ ;-)

Today I ventured over to Magentic Island. No other than James Cook is responsible for the name, his compass behaved in a funny way close by and he blamed the island for beeing magnetic (that is not the case). It is a truly beautiful place though with lots of things to see on land and in the sea. I have seen wild koalas, the cutest, but sleepiest animal I have ever seen. In the afternoon I tried the two snorkeling trails. In the first bay you can experience the wreck of Moltke (link to Wiki) and an aeroplane propeller and engine block from a CW-22B Curtiss Falcon. The other trail hade wonderful corals to display,  amongst others, lettuce coral, showed on the photo. The UW pics are stolen from the internet, mostly because I didn't bring my camera of course, not at all due to the lack of visibility ;-)
