One of the fun things I get the opportunity to do is the biannual cave rescue
training arranged by the Swedish police and mountain rescue service. As none of
these organisations are very well acquainted with caves they invite us
speleologists for support with planning but above all guiding in the cave. This
session was held in Korallgottan, the longest cave in Sweden and one of the
most beautiful ones. My friend Andreas and I were to help out in the planning
of the event, a bit challenging but loads of fun as well. The group got two
different tasks; to organise a search for three missing cavers and later on
rescue of these cavers, all three severely hypothermic and one with a femur
fracture. The team did very well and they also appeared to be happy with the
day (perhaps only because we hade the opportunity to get a heli ride to and
from the cave).
